Digital data collection is only as strong as its quality system

Tools such as KoboToolbox and SurveyCTO improve speed, but reliable evidence still depends on training, supervision, checks, and disciplined cleaning.

Digital forms reduce transcription errors and make field monitoring faster, but they do not automatically produce high-quality data. Poor question wording, weak skip logic, rushed training, and limited supervision can still undermine the final dataset.

NCS treats data quality as a fieldwork system. That means piloting tools, training enumerators with realistic scenarios, reviewing submissions daily, checking duration and GPS patterns where appropriate, running consistency checks, and resolving issues while teams are still in the field.

The clean dataset is not the only deliverable that matters. Clients also need a transparent record of how data were collected, what quality controls were applied, what limitations remain, and how analysis decisions were made.
